Abington Art Center Garden Engagement
Sarah & Matt are having a summer wedding at Knowlton Mansion which I am SO excited for. But first they wanted to have engagements photos done (click HERE for more info on why you should book an engagement session before your wedding!!!). Knowlton Mansion is a beautiful venue with gorgeous architecture, and the landscape gives off garden/woodsy vibes. So naturally, Sarah chose a spot that gave off similar vibes for their garden, woodsy engagement session: Abington Art Center.
Abington Art Center
Abington Art Center is a hidden Philadelphia gem. The beautiful building has that sort of historic beauty & mystery that many buildings around Philly carry in their architecture. Paired with a short hiking trail through the woods and an abandoned wrought-iron pavilion, Abington Art Center has plenty of diversity in a relatively small radius!
Our session first took us through the woods to an abandoned stone tower structure. (The path was mostly dirt so be careful not to go after a rainstorm!) I then had Sarah & Matt walk on a pathway near a large tree and sit on some stone steps by some landscaping. After that, we played around with the sunlight and the stone architecture of the art center. We then took a brief intermission for an outfit change before heading down a winding, shaded road toward a large grass lawn with a great view of the art center building! This is also where we found the beautiful, wrought-iron pavilion.
PRO TIP: Before you plan an engagement session at Abington Art Center, make sure there is not an event happening on that day! Weekdays are usually your best bet.
Garden, Woodsy Engagement Session
Okay so let me just start by saying Sarah’s style was a PERFECT match for this location. She loves neutrals (oatmeal is her favorite color!) which really complemented the architecture of the building while standing out from the greenish-yellowish colors of the woods. She chose a nicer outfit and a more casual outfit for her and Matt to wear during the session, which I highly recommend. And the best part is, she LOVED her outfits!! They felt true to her and it was an added bonus that they worked so well with her environment.
And to top it all off, these two are actual models. The ease with which they posed in front of the camera was astounding!! To be clear, I always come to my sessions full of posing/prompt ideas for my couples because I know it’s not every day you get professional photos taken! Usually it takes some time to get used to the camera, but Sarah and Matt were absolute naturals. I am so excited for this sweet couple to get married this summer and start building a life together!!! Oh, and the fact that I get to photograph them again … how lucky am I?!
