Three Tips for the Best Engagement Session Ever

So you have a brand new sparkler on your finger, you just popped the question or have mutually decided it’s time to marry your partner. However it happened, if you’re reading this then chances are…you just got ENGAGED! Congratulations!!! Now let me help you prep for your photos to mark this extra special occasion, aka your engagement session!

Choose the Right Photographer

Your photographer should be more than just a person behind the lens. They should make you feel comfortable, listen to your input, and seek to understand your vision. Beyond their photographic style, look for these qualities to ensure a golden collaboration.

Pick the Perfect Location

The location helps set the tone for the entire shoot. Try and pick a location that does one of these three things. 1) It’s a place that is meaningful to you as a couple. Maybe a favorite date spot, where you ment, or even where you popped the question! 2) It’s a place you’ve always wanted to go (destination engagement shoot, anyone?) or 3) it matches the vibe you want in your photos! If you’re an earthy, laid back, nature loving couple – then hiking a tree-lined trail might be for you. If your style is classic and timeless, then some gorgeous town hall architecture might suit you better. The location significantly influences the overall look and feel of your pictures, and there’s a right spot for every couple.

Dress for Success

Your outfit is more than just clothing—it’s an expression of yourself. Make sure your outfit accomplishes three crucial things: Firstly, it should make you feel *hot* (as in, cute as heck) and confident. Secondly, we want you to feel your best so while we love it when you dress like a smokeshow, make sure you’re actually comfortable both physically, and otherwise! Lastly, dress for the season you’re in! A weather-appropriate outfit keeps you comfy, which means your photographer will be able to capture your true emotions in the moment! 

These three things, choosing the right photographer, selecting the perfect location, and dressing thoughtfully, really help set you and your partner up for success during your engagement session, and make sure the stage is set for a truly magical and authentic experience. The best memories are made when you feel at ease, in a place you’re inspired by and with the person you love!

“Hiring Gabriella as our photographer was the single best decision we made on wedding day.
