Some wedding days seem to have a little bit of magic working behind the scenes.

For Gina and Matt, that magic arrived just before their outdoor ceremony at Terrain Gardens at Devon Yard.

Rain had been in the forecast throughout the week, leaving one big question hanging over their wedding plans: would they still be able to have the outdoor ceremony they had hoped for?

By the morning of the wedding, the forecast finally started looking more promising. The rain was expected to stop, but no one knew whether it would happen soon enough. The team at Terrain Gardens worked to keep the courtyard ceremony seats dry while everyone waited to see what the weather would do.

Then, just before the doors opened for Gina and her dad to walk down the aisle, the sun appeared for the first time that day! It was straight out of a movie scene!!!

What Is It Like to Have a Wedding at Terrain Gardens at Devon Yard?

After getting ready separately off-site, Gina and Matt arrived at Terrain Gardens and stayed there for the remainder of their wedding day. That meant their ceremony, portraits, cocktail hour, and reception could all happen in one location without needing to build additional travel time into the day.

The abundance of greenery also created plenty of options for their wedding photography without leaving the property. From their quiet first touch under a canopy of greenery to newlywed portraits surrounded by flowers, the venue gave them different backdrops while allowing them to stay present with their guests.

For couples who value spending their wedding day celebrating rather than traveling between photo locations, having so much available in one place can make the day feel considerably more relaxed – which is how you want to feel on your wedding day!

What alternatives are there for couples who don’t want to do a First Look?

Many couples want to wait to see each other for the first time at the aisle, but value the idea of sharing intimate time before the ceremony. For these couples, I suggest exchanging private vows with a first touch instead. It’s a personal way to exchange vows together privately and get rid of some of the pre-wedding jitters, while still preserving the tradition of seeing each other for the first time at the aisle.

Gina and Matt chose this more traditional route. They shared a first touch outside under a canopy of greenery, standing on opposite sides without seeing one another. Their intimate first touch and private vow exchange were perfect for calming their nerves and connecting before sharing their public vows during the ceremony in front of everyone they love.

Their ceremony vows carried that same sense of connection. The way Gina and Matt looked at each other made it clear that the emotion in their photographs did not need to be manufactured. It was already there.

How Can You Include Your Dog In Your Pennsylvania Wedding?

For Gina and Matt, their wedding day would not have felt complete without Cinder, their golden retriever.

Cinder walked down the aisle with Matt before the ceremony and later joined Gina and Matt for some of their couple portraits. By cocktail hour, Cinder had found another important role: greeting guests and collecting as many belly rubs as possible.

Including a pet in your wedding does not mean they need to participate in every part of the day. Giving them a few intentional moments can allow them to be part of the memories while still keeping the wedding day comfortable for everyone involved.

And sometimes the photographs of your dog happily making the rounds at cocktail hour tell you everything you need to know about how much fun they were having too.

A Terrain Gardens Reception Filled With Their Favourite People

Once everyone moved into the reception, the celebration continued with an entrance that immediately showed the personality of this group.

After their wedding party danced their way in, Gina and Matt entered and went straight into their first dance. Their friends and family gathered around them to watch before everyone settled in for dinner and toasts. Later came parent dances and cake cutting, followed by plenty of time on the dance floor.

But one of the sweetest photographs from the reception was not part of the official timeline at all.

At one point during the evening, a song Gina loved began playing while Matt was outside on the patio. She left the dance floor to find him and asked, “Babe, will you come dance with me?”

Of course, he said yes to his new bride. They headed back inside and slow danced together.

It was a small, spontaneous interaction in the middle of a much bigger celebration, but it captured something important about their wedding day. They were not performing a moment for a photograph. They were simply enjoying being married.

And the photograph came from being there when it happened.

From a Race Day Meeting to Their Wedding Day

Gina and Matt’s story began long before their Terrain Gardens wedding, on race day at the Benjamin Franklin Bridge through their shared passion for running. As a fellow runner, it made photographing their wedding especially meaningful.

But there were no finish lines to chase on their wedding day. They got to slow down and celebrate the life they were beginning together, surrounded by the people who clearly could not have been happier to be there with them.

From the sun appearing just in time for their ceremony to one last spontaneous request to dance, their wedding was filled with moments that could never have been perfectly scheduled.

And that is exactly what made them worth remembering.
