When Sam & Ky told me they wanted to do a hiking engagement session at Valley Forge Park, I nearly jumped for joy. I had been wanting to photograph a hiking session for a while at that point, and Valley Forge was on my “to-shoot-at” list of photo locations!! Plus, this session would give me an opportunity to get to know Sam & Ky a little better before their wedding the following summer.

As we were brainstorming for this session, Sam mentioned that she really wanted some photos at dusk. It was her favorite time of day; in her words, “when the sun has set but there’s still enough light in the sky to silhouette the trees.” Count me IN!!! We started our session a little earlier than planned to fit in the hike before dusk. Sam & Ky trusted me completely with the dusk photos … and it showed!!! Not only did we have a ton of fun with them, but they ended up being some of my favorite engagement photos of the year. I can’t freaking WAIT for this sweet couple’s summer wedding!!!

Not only is incorporating hiking into your engagement session possible, it is a fanTASTIC idea. Here’s why:

If you want to incorporate nature into your session and hiking is one of your favorite hobbies, I strongly recommend considering a hiking engagement session. Especially if there’s a view!!!

Valley Forge Park

There is soooo much potential at this park. As you know by now, there are some awesome hiking trails within the park. They include covered bridges, abandoned brick buildings and cute little streams! Additionally, the National Memorial Arch is a beautiful place for pictures and doubles as a cool part of United States history. There are also a myriad of wide open spaces which make for breathtaking sunset/sunrise pictures. Just scroll to the end of the gallery below to see what I mean!!
